WHY THE GATHER INTEL MISSION IS KILLING YOUR HOURLY

The Gather Intel mission — officially called the Cayo Perico scope-out — is the most overlooked time drain in the entire heist. Most players treat it as a casual stroll around the island, taking 12–18 minutes to check every possible loot spawn and secondary location. That is a serious mistake for anyone who cares about GTA$/hour.

Here’s the math: if your heist finale takes 11 minutes and your Gather Intel takes 15 minutes, that’s 26 minutes of active play per cycle. Cut Gather Intel to 5 minutes and you’re at 16 minutes — a 38% reduction in active time per run. Over a four-hour grinding session, that efficiency difference compounds into hundreds of thousands of extra GTA$.

⚡ The Goal

Land. Check one hangar. Grab the bike. Jump the checkpoint. Find the Signal Box. Cycle the vault cameras. Confirm your target. Get caught. Done. Under 5 minutes, every time.

THE AIRSTRIP HANGAR CHECK — 30 Seconds

The moment you land on Cayo Perico and gain control of your character, your first move is a 30-second detour to the airstrip hangar. Don’t skip this. The hangar is the most consistent spawn point for Cocaine and Weed secondary loot — the highest-value secondaries for solo runners.

Walk directly into the main hangar to the left of the landing strip. Photograph any loot crates visible on the floor. This takes 20–30 seconds and can mean the difference between knowing you have $220K of Cocaine secondary waiting versus going in blind. If the hangar is empty, the secondary loot has spawned elsewhere — you’ll collect it during the heist itself.

💡 Pro Move

Don’t photograph every secondary location on the island. You only need to know what’s in the two to three highest-priority spots — the airstrip hangar, the compound storage building, and the main compound floor. Everything else is a time sink that adds zero value to your prep.

THE MANCHEZ SCOUT JUMP — Saves 3 Minutes

This is the single most important trick in the entire Gather Intel speedrun, and it’s surprisingly simple once you know it. Between the airstrip and the Communications Tower lies the main island checkpoint — a heavily guarded gate that, if you approach on foot via the road, forces a slow, cautious detour through dense foliage to avoid being caught.

The Manchez Scout motorcycle spawns reliably near the airstrip road — look for it parked by the security hut or along the access road heading north. Mount it immediately. Now comes the jump.

Instead of following the main road toward the checkpoint, veer left toward the grassy hill that runs parallel to the checkpoint fence. There is a natural ramp/incline on the left side of the checkpoint perimeter. Hit it at speed on the Manchez Scout and you clear the fence entirely — bypassing the checkpoint and its guards without triggering detection. You are now inside the upper compound road network, minutes ahead of schedule.

⚡ FASTEST SCOPE ROUTE — AIRSTRIP TO TOWER

Guard Vision Cones (Avoid)

⚠️ Don’t Hit the Main Road

The main road leading north from the airstrip runs directly through the checkpoint guard patrol area. Going straight triggers detection and wastes 2+ minutes on a detour. Always veer left to the hill the moment you mount the Manchez Scout. The jump clears the checkpoint fence at any standard approach speed — you don’t need to be going flat-out.

REACHING THE COMMUNICATIONS TOWER

After the checkpoint jump, you’re on the upper road network with a direct line to the Communications Tower. The fastest route cuts through the light bush on the right — not the main road. The main road runs past two Guard Tower positions with active vision cones that extend across the entire road width. Cutting through the brush bypasses both of them entirely.

Ride the Manchez Scout to within 50–60 metres of the tower base, then dismount and approach on foot. The two guards near the tower entrance patrol a predictable loop — time your approach for when both are facing away, which happens consistently every 15–20 seconds of their cycle.

💡 Guard Tower Note

The Guard Towers on the main road have elevated vision cones — their guards can spot you from significantly further than ground-level patrols. Staying in the brush keeps you completely out of their detection range. If you must use the road, crouch-run along the very edge opposite to the guard tower position.

THE SIGNAL BOX — Always Check Ground First

📦
✅ Ground Level
Located at the base of the tower on the right side. Check here first — every time. If present, interact with it immediately. Saves 60+ seconds vs climbing the tower.
📡
🔼 Up the Tower
If the ground box isn’t there, climb the tower ladder to the upper platform. The box is at the top. This adds approximately 45–60 seconds to your total scope time.

The Cayo Perico Signal Box spawns in one of two locations — ground level at the tower base, or on the upper tower platform. The ground spawn is far more time-efficient. Most experienced players check ground first without breaking stride — if it’s there, interact and move on. If not, up you go.

⚡ The Fastest Signal Box Interaction

Approach from the right side of the tower base. The ground-level Signal Box faces east. You can spot it from 8–10 metres away — if you can see the interaction prompt at that distance, you don’t need to close in further before initiating. Every second counts.

CYCLING THE CAMERAS — FIND YOUR PRIMARY TARGET

Once the Signal Box hack completes, you gain access to El Rubio’s compound CCTV feed via your in-game phone’s Signal Hacker app. You now have a brief window to cycle through the cameras and identify the vault’s primary target. This is your Pink Diamond RNG check.

Cycle directly to Camera 4 to confirm your primary target. If it’s the Panther Statue during an event week — lock in. If it’s Pink Diamond — excellent, proceed. If it’s Tequila — consider abandoning and re-rolling your scope. The time cost of one re-roll is worth avoiding a sub-$1M primary run.

THE “GET CAUGHT” TRICK — FASTEST EXIT IN THE GAME

⚠️ Counterintuitive
Walk Into a Guard. On Purpose. It’s the Fastest Way Out.

Once you’ve confirmed your vault target and photographed everything you need, the standard exit involves running back to the airstrip and waiting for a cutscene. That takes 2–3 minutes. There’s a much faster option that most new players never figure out: deliberately get caught by a guard.

Walk directly into a guard’s vision cone and let them detect you. The “busted” detection sequence triggers a fast-travel cutscene that instantly returns you to the planning screen — skipping the entire run-back-to-the-plane sequence. The scope-out mission completes normally. Your photographed targets are all saved. You lose absolutely nothing except the 2 minutes you would have wasted running to the airstrip.

This one trick alone cuts 2–3 minutes off every Gather Intel run. Combined with the Manchez Scout jump, it’s the reason a full scope-out takes under 5 minutes once you’ve mastered the route.

⚠️ Do This AFTER Photographing Everything

Make absolutely sure you’ve photographed your primary target and any secondary loot you want to know about before you intentionally trigger detection. Getting caught before completing the vault camera cycle ends the scope-out without saving those targets. Confirm vault → photograph → then walk into the nearest guard.
