The setup fee Pavel charges for Hard Mode activation is trivial compared to the payout difference. On a Pink Diamond run, the Hard Mode premium adds $130,000 gross. After receiving Pavel’s message following your scope-out, you have 48 real-time minutes to access the Kosatka planning board and pay the Hard Mode activation fee. The timer runs in real-world time — not in-game time. If you log off or get distracted and return after the window closes, Hard Mode will not be available for that heist instance.
Finish the scope-out mission — photograph the primary target, secondary loot locations, and entry/exit points. Return to the Kosatka via submarine or escape.
Pavel sends a text message to your in-game phone shortly after the scope-out completes. This message signals that the Hard Mode option is now available. Your 48-minute window starts from this message.
Return to your Kosatka submarine immediately. Head to the planning board inside the sub. You will see the Hard Mode option available with the setup fee listed. Pay it now — do not delay.
Confirm the payment. The planning board will update showing Hard Mode is active for this heist instance. Your primary target payout is now displaying the Hard Mode value. You’re locked in — run your preps as normal.
Don’t wait. The moment you receive Pavel’s message, get on the Kosatka and pay the fee. Real-world distractions eat into that 48-minute window fast. Building “pay Hard Mode fee” as the first thing you do after every scope-out eliminates the risk of ever accidentally running Normal Mode.

HARD MODE PENALTIES — WHAT CHANGES

- Zero Team Lives: In Hard Mode, there are no respawn lives for the heist team. Any player who dies during the finale is permanently out for that run — crew members cannot respawn.
